A network of educational psychologists
Offering an in-depth understanding of how education systems operate, our educational psychologists are well versed in working with teachers, support staff and parents
Educational psychologists are often embedded within local authorities so have a good understanding of services in place for children identified as requiring additional support as a result of special educational needs or emotional or behavioural difficulties. They are child-focused in their approach and can provide a clear picture of a child’s areas of strength and areas where support may be required. All of our psychologists work for Carter Brown as independent, self-employed contractors.
The SEND Code of Practice (2015) is very clear that ‘Where assessment indicates that support from specialist services is required, it is important that children and young people receive it as quickly as possible’. This document clearly identifies educational psychologists as an appropriate source of specialist support.
Our educational psychologists benefit from Carter Brown’s ongoing support and training opportunities.
All our educational psychologists have a minimum of 5 years’ post-qualification experience and are registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Their unique experience means that they have an in depth understanding of how education systems operate and are well-versed in working with teachers, support staff, parents and carers to ensure that children’s needs can be met across settings.
Through their assessments, they are able to identify:
- A child or young person’s level of cognitive functioning
- The impact of any specific learning difficulties
- Strategies to support a child’s learning, emotional wellbeing and behaviour
- Appropriate support or training for a child’s parents, carers or teaching staff
- Any barriers to a child’s learning and how they can be dismantled
- How home and school might work together
- The most appropriate educational setting for a child
- The level of support a child may need in school
- Any drivers for a child’s behaviours
- Any factors which may be impacting a child’s experience of education.
