Sir Andrew McFarlane appointed by HM The Queen

HM The Queen has approved the appointment of The Rt Hon Sir Andrew McFarlane as the President of the Family Division.

Sir Andrew will step up to this position from 28th July 2018, following the retirement of Sir James Munby on 27th July 2018.

This appointment was made by HM The Queen on the advice of the Prime Minister, the Lord Chancellor, and an independent panel. The panel was chaired by Lord Burnett of Maldon and included the President of the Supreme Court, Baroness Hale and three lay Judicial Appointments Commissioners.

Sir Andrew McFarlane was called to the Bar in 1977 and took Queen’s Councel in 1998. He was appointed a recorder in 1995, a Deputy High Court Judge in 2000 and a High Court Judge in 2005
